Help Protect Species At Risk In Cawthra Woods

The Cawthra Woods fence was constructed to restrict public access and protect Jefferson salamanders and their habitat.  These salamanders are a species at risk under the Endangered Species Act, 2007.  For public safety, this fence directs access to authorized trails.  It also prevents soil compaction and helps restore forest vegetation.

You can help protect wildlife and habitat in this environmentally sensitive area:

·       stay on authorized trails

·       avoid disturbing plant material

·       keep dogs leashed and pick up after your pets

·       report damage and trespassing to Parks Watch Hotline at 905-615-4060 or to Peel Regional Police at 905-453-3311 (911 in an emergency)
